Efayomi Carr is a Sierra Leonean marathoner with a 2:43 personal best. When he crossed the finish line at the Cape Town Marathon in May, he discovered he was less than ten minutes away from Sierra Leone's national marathon record — a mark that has stood for more than a decade. Over the next 18 months, he intends to close the gap completely. The goal is bigger than one finishing time: the record chase is a platform to bring visibility, resources and opportunity to Sierra Leone's young, ambitious running community — run clubs in Freetown, Makeni and Kono, and the athletes who come next.
